Here a twist, there a twist, everywhere a twist, twist...

Well, it sure seems that everyone has their knickers in a twist over something this week. Whether it's the Holy Father's Motu Proprio or the recent clarification statement from the CDF, there is an awful lot of complaining going on.

First let's look at the Motu Proprio on the TLM. There is something particularly hilarious about the type of people who are displeased with the position of the Holy Father as expressed therein. The people who think the TLM was completely done away with, or at least should have been, are the same people who think the NO is just swell precisely BECAUSE it is the mass "of the people." The outrageously amusing irony here is that, in many ways, the TLM has been kept alive for decades BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE who have demanded its availability. Therefore, isn't the TLM just as much, if not more, the mass of the people? Doesn't the increased availability of the TLM express exactly what its opponents generally want from the Church (that she respond to the cries of the laity and their desires)?

Every liberal in the Church should, therefore, be celebrating the Pope's Moto Proprio.

Regarding the document addressing the Church proper and those ECs who are not in full communion with the Church, I actually don't have much to say about that. I am a post Vatican II convert and even I knew that what was said in this document is exactly what has always been said, even in Vatican II documents.

If I had to guess why people are upset about it, I would say pride, agenda, and fear. That's my best guess. I suppose that when people find that the Church is not some hyper malleable wad of feel-good ooze, they are going to get upset.

But, for some of us, we are Catholic because we want the pillar and foundation of the truth, not a wad of feel-good ooze.
