What I've Learned This Week

Well, it's been five days since my tumor was removed from my noggin, and this is what I've learned during recovery:

1. Vicodin is not the worst way to start your day.

2. St. Therese of Lisieux is a very sweet and comforting intercessor.

3. Recovering from surgery really IS a good time to pray. It may be the only time that people actually hesitate to interrupt you.

4. When you cannot turn your head independently of your body without pain or dizziness, your driving is not so great.

5. Zooey Deschanel can pull of long dark hair and short blond hair. Proof that life is not fair.

6. Speaking of hair, husbands are relieved when you get to keep most of yours.

7. In spite of the fact that your stitches are clearly visible on the front of your head, someone will still ask you, "So, when is your surgery?" And they will be serious.

8. It's actually good when people see your stitches, because even mean people and people who don't like you become really nice when they see stitches in your head.

9. When they say there will be swelling, there WILL be swelling.

10. As far as Klingons go, I make a pretty cute one.

I'm sure you're much cuter than the average Klingon!

I'm sure Klingons can pull off long dark hair and short blond hair too.

You're probably the cutest Klingon on the east coast ;)

Ha ha ha!!!

Thankfully, my forehead swelling has reduced in size to the point that I am beginning to look more human. But, with half of the stitches removed, my incision actually looks MORE gross than it did before.

Blech.

HA! I very deliberately avoided cameras this week.

Trust me, you would NOT want to have seen that.

Well, you're a guy, so you probably would have wanted to see it. The first question Dave asked me when I came out into the waiting room was, "Did you see it after they took it out?"

Sheesh. Boys.
